The 601 is an improvement over the 401, with high sensitivity waterproof GPS receiver, capable of keeping a clear signal, in the dense jungle environment. See below for several features of the 601:

Our GPS holder is made to hold the Garmin Foretrex 601 GPS, 401 GPS and the Garmin Foretrex 101 GPS. Designed with a removable flap to protect from damage and guard against a light A.D. from your GPS. The Cordura is solution dyed and meets Military specifications for Near-Infrared (NIR) compliance.  Elastic arm band for comfort, but also allows you to mount the GPS on your SOPMOD butt stock for your M4. Built with a better retention system than any other holder on the market. Made with high quality Mil-Spec materials.
